Announcing Our First Sweetheart of the Week....Jennifer Carter!

Congratulations to Jennifer Carter for being named our most recent Sweetheart of the Week! She has gone above and beyond the minimum requirements to help make our organization the best that it can be! Jennifer is a corporate communications major from Weatherford, Texas, and joined Sweethearts in Spring 2012. Outside of Sweethearts, she enjoys riding horses and shopping. You are the stars in our eyes, Jennifer!

SWEETHEART OF THE WEEK

Sweetie Class: Spring '12

Major: Corporate Communication/Pre-Law

Favorite Thing About Sweethearts: I've met all of my closest friends in Sweethearts, and these girls have become my family away from home. Sweethearts also incorportates everything from activities that support the Longhorns to events that help us reach out to the UT and Austin communities in its agenda. I love that!

What is one piece of advice that you would give to a Sweetie?
Though this may seem a little frustrating, given how stressful sweetie semester can be, definitely be sure to enjoy your time with your sweetie sisters! When you're an active, everyone branches out to do their own thing, and you'll miss spending so much time with those girls from your sweetie class. Also, don't procrastinate. The sweetie semester requirements seem much less daunting when you plan ahead!

If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
Time travel or the ability to speak every language (if those count!)

If you had to live in freezing cold weather or sweltering hot weather for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
Sweltering hot! I'm a huge sissy when it comes to cold weather.

President's Welcome

I am incredibly honored to have the privilege of serving as the Spring 2013 president of what I believe is the most amazing sisterhood here at the University of Texas. I am so looking forward to doing my absolute best to lead Texas Sweethearts to bigger and better things in our 27th year as a student organization on campus.

Four years ago, I was an intimidated freshman who came to UT with hardly any friends from home. I knew that UT was a large university, but nothing could prepare me for how small and lost I would feel amongst 50,000 students. I decided to explore several spirit organizations that first semester, but I wasn't accepted into the ones that I was most interested in, including Sweethearts. I felt even more out of place and wanted so badly to transfer. In the spring, I again looked around at different spirit groups and found something so special in Texas Sweethearts. There was something about how down to earth, relaxed, fun, and genuine the active members were. I could tell that there was a sincere friendship between every single one of them, and nothing was forced. I took a leap of faith and decided to apply again, and I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions that I have made throughout my undergraduate career.

I am forever grateful for what Texas Sweethearts has given to me. I have not only acquired lifelong friendships, amazing memories, countless opportunities to give back, and invaluble leadership experience, but I have also gained a sense of belonging on campus - a home away from home. It saddens me to think about this spring being my last semester in college, because more than anything, I will truly miss this organization and the girls that have become my family.

To all prospective members, I am so excited to share my love for Sweethearts with all of you. I know how scary and intimidating recruitment can be, but if you have even the smallest desire to join a spirit group, I encourage you to come out to one of our information sessions and all of our smoker events to really get to know us and what we are all about. I am confident that you will meet the most genuine, fun-loving, dedicated girls on campus. Our recruitment is truly a mutual selection process where as much as we want to get to know you, we also want you to be able to feel comfortable and assured that Texas Sweethearts is the perfect organization for you. I hope that you will find that same sincerity that I found four years ago.

On behalf of our officer board and our entire active body, I want to welcome all of you to our Spring 2013 recruitment process. We are so incredibly excited to meet you throughout the upcoming weeks!

Sweetheart love,

Stephanie Jean
Spring 2013 President

Closing it out with a bang!

As the Fall '12 semester came to close, we had much to celebrate. Not only did we win the IM volleyball championship and host a successful Dream Date philanthropy event but we also gained 28 incredible new Sweetheart sisters. We celebrated the semester with several social events including Parents' Weekend, banquet, and winter formal.

Thank you so much to Fall '12 president, Morgan Germany, and the Fall '12 officer board for a fun, exciting, and memorable semester!

INTRAMURAL VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS!!

After a semester of Sunday evening games at Gregory Gym, our volleyball team took home the IM championship! Our organization has been thoroughly devoted to fulfilling our spirit pillar through supporting the University of Texas athletics, but we also enjoy strengthening our sisterhood and our love for spirit through intramural sports. In the past, we have participated in flag football, soccer, basketball, softball, and many more IM sports, but this fall, our active body deecided to try volleyball for the first time in several semesters.

Ending the season with a  3-1 record, our team headed into the playoffs and rallied against the very talented Hispanic Business Student Association's team for the championship. After close calls and intense competition, we were crowned the 2012 Intramural Volleyball Champions! A huge thank you to Nikki Faldyn for being an amazing Spirit Chair this semester and organizing and leading our organization to an IM championship!

Serving Our Community

The Texas Sweethearts has always been wholeheartedly dedicated to serving our community in every way possible. Throughout the fall semester, we were actively involved in community service by volunteering with several different organizations including Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Best Buddies, Sure Walk, Texas Wranglers' City Wide Hold-Up, and of course, our philanthropy, the BeHive Austin.

On November 16, we hosted our 7th annual Dream Date auction at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center on campus. We were fortunate to have the support of many amazing donors including Arbor Car Wash, Mama Fu's, Kendra Scott, Oakley, Lily Pulitzer, El Mercado, Footlocker, Embassy Suites and many, many more. The event turned out to be the most successful one yet with record-breaking attendance and a total of $10,075 raised for our philanthropy, BeHive Austin. Thank you to our Fall '12 service chairs, Alisha Patel and Sholeh Abedinzadeh, for a great semseter of giving back!
